A director who directs people

Expertise is not a performance.

Most contributors are not actors, presenters or trained spokespeople. They should not be expected to become one because a camera has arrived.

Nick Lazar makes films and teaches screen acting. That combination means contributors are prepared properly, listened to and directed in the moment. We find the natural, useful version of what someone wants to say instead of forcing them through a script that sounds nothing like them.

“The objective isn’t to make someone look like a presenter. It’s to help them look confident being themselves.”

The process

Prepared properly. Filmed efficiently.

You do not need a script or a production vocabulary. You need to know your subject.

  1. 01

    Plan

Agree on the audience, the message and the useful final outputs before anyone reaches for a camera.

  2. 02

    Prepare

Shape the questions, talking points, contributors and filming schedule so the day has a clear purpose.

  3. 03

    Film

Direct contributors, capture the work and keep the shoot calm, focused and proportionate.

  4. 04

    Finish

Edit, review, colour, caption and supply the versions agreed at the beginning.

Professional practices

Make an unfamiliar service feel less unfamiliar.

Solicitors, accountants, financial professionals, dentists, clinicians and vets all sell expertise that can be difficult to judge before purchase. A well-directed film lets prospective clients see the people, understand the process and feel more confident about making contact.

Practical questions

Before you book a shoot.

If your question is not here, ask it. There is no obligation and no need to pretend you already understand video production.

Usually not. We start by identifying what the audience needs to understand, then decide whether the film needs interview questions, talking points, a full script or a mixture.

That is one of the main reasons to use Vivify. Contributors are prepared and directed rather than left alone with a camera. We can also structure the film so nobody has to deliver long scripted pieces to lens.

Yes. Short edits can be planned alongside the main film, with the appropriate duration, framing and captions for the channels you genuinely intend to use.

Yes. Vivify is based in Sussex and films throughout the UK and, where a project warrants it, internationally. Any travel costs are agreed before the project begins.
